About This Anthology
This anthology was created in 2019 by professors Stephen Logan and Heather Thompson-Gillis at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio as a textbook replacement for English 2261: Introduction to Fiction, a 2000-level introductory literature course with a focus on the short story and the novel. We have taught this course for a number of years and the idea of creating a free anthology for it came from many conversations with our own students who said the cost of textbooks was frequently hundreds of dollars per semester, the source of significant worry, and at times cut into their budget for transportation, housing, food and other essential costs. Though English is rarely the greatest source of textbook costs, it is our hope that this anthology provides a high quality and accessible resource that reduces the overall financial burden for students at Columbus State and at other colleges and universities.
All content in this anthology was created with our own first and second-year undergraduate college students in mind. Some content may not be appropriate for high school students and much of the content likely does not meet the needs of upper-level undergraduate or graduate English students. This anthology was made public as a pilot at the beginning of Autumn semester 2019. Various updates, edits and additions will continue to be completed.
